Pepper Seedling Management
The quality of pepper growth depends on whether there are strong seedlings planted at the beginning, and the cultivation of strong seedlings requires more careful care. In order to save seeds, obtain strong seedlings, and obtain uniform pepper seedlings with consistent growth periods, planting peppers requires artificial seedlings, and then transplanted into the field, so the management of seedlings is particularly important.
The growth period of pepper seedlings:
Germination period:
Pepper is called the germination period of planting from sowing to the embryo breaking through the shackles of the seed coat, and then to the cotyledon's slight development. During this period, the nutrient consumption is all the nutrients stored in the seeds.
Broken heart period:
The heart-breaking period is from the cotyledons to the true leaves, which generally takes about 7 days. This period is the transition period from heterotrophic to autotrophic. Begins photosynthesis and dry matter accumulation. During this period, it is necessary to control water and temperature to prevent the hypocotyl from elongating too fast.
Basic vegetative growth period:
The basic vegetative growth period is the period when peppers start to grow vegetatively. During this period, the growth rate is relatively high, especially the root weight increases rapidly. During this period, management changed from control to promotion.
Then there will be flower bud differentiation period, seedling hardening period, transplanting period and other periods. Today we mainly share the management methods of the first three periods.
Germination period:
The germination period requires the guarantee of temperature and humidity to awaken the vitality of the seeds.
(1) Temperature.
During this period, the temperature is required to be around 30°C, and a moderately higher temperature is conducive to germination, but it should be noted that germination will be inhibited if the temperature exceeds 35°C, and germination will stop when the temperature is lower than 15°C, so the temperature must be well controlled.
(2) Humidity. During the germination stage, the seeds need to absorb water to swell and break the seed coat. The growth of the seed embryo and the decomposition of organic matter also need a lot of water, so it is necessary to ensure that the humidity is about 95%. If it is dry, it will not germinate. Pay attention to the production time, do not replenish water frequently, each replenishment will reduce the temperature, apply sufficient bottom water before sowing, and cover the surface with a layer of plastic film to retain water and increase temperature.
Broken heart period:
The heart-breaking period is the transition period for seedlings from heterotrophic to autotrophic, changing the original way of providing nutrition from seeds to the way of plant photosynthesis to provide nutrition. This period is about 7 days. During this period, it is necessary to pay attention to cooling and humidity control, so as to prevent the hypocotyl from being excessively elongated to form "tall seedlings".
Control temperature and water:
During this period, the temperature is controlled at 20-25°C during the day and 15-18°C at night. Control the humidity of the seedbed, and do not water the bed soil if it is not "white". Appropriate temperature control and water control are conducive to the accumulation of dry matter in plants and prevent excessive growth, resulting in slender plants, weakened resistance, easy lodging, and susceptible to damping-off.
Basic nutrition period:
The period from true leaf unfolding to 4 leaves and 1 heart period is called the basic vegetative growth period. At this time, the temperature is appropriately increased to ensure the normal growth of seedlings.
Properly increase the temperature, pay attention to supplement water, and apply fertilizer reasonably
(1) Temperature.
Keep the temperature around 27°C during the day and around 20°C at night, and the most suitable temperature difference between day and night is 7-10°C.
(2) Humidity.
Appropriately increase the humidity of the seedbed so that it is in a semi-dry and semi-humid state. During this period, the aboveground part of the seedlings grows slowly, the underground part grows faster, and the root weight increases rapidly.
(3) Supplement nutrition.
In order to promote the growth of seedlings, the leaves can be sprayed with 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution + 1000 times liquid of algae root for top dressing.
